Biography
Dj Koen started his career at the age of 15 when he won a Dj competition in a local disco in Belgium. As the winner of the contest he earned his spot playing on Sunday afternoon in that place. In those days he was an all round Dj playing from guns and roses till Whitney Houston. When he turned 16 he was allowed to play in other clubs as " The Kid - Display - Twins - LP - and many more. Then one day he got an offer to play at club carat, at that time club carat was a club that was open only at night. A few months later the idea came to open up a afterclub. And all the rest is history. He was the first Dj at Afterclub carat where he played alongside with all the legendary Belgium and international dj's .
During the years of Carat, Dj Koen was invited as a guest Dj at many clubs in Belgium as LaRocca - Extreme - Boccacio - Dreamland - Cherrymoon - and many more. Not only Belgium got to know his name, he had bookings from Holland - Germany - France - UK and Spain .
At the age of 26 he decided to leave Belgium and went to Spain, where he met Martin King ( promoter of the biggest party's in Spain in the 90's) where he was playing at all the major events across Spain ( Ibiza - Mallorca - Barcelona - Madrid and the Canarian Islands) after a break from 2 years from the music business he got back playing at club Kabbala in Jerez de la frontera and soon he became a resident at clubs as "Rouge" and "Öxi". In 2007 Dj Koen was invited to play at Creamfields and Moto GP festival in Spain. In 2016 he decided to return to Belgium and not long after his return he picked up his hunger to continue doing something with music and "Call it retro" was born. Together with some good friends he started this concept a year ago and it was a massive success. This year he had the honour to play at one of the biggest indoor festival in Amsterdam "White Moon " and there are more to come. Koen is still working not only as a Dj but as well as the main person behind "Call it retro", and soon he will be back in the studio to release a brand new track.
